Job SummaryWe are seeking a commercially focused and analytically strong Commercial Finance Director / Head of FP&A to lead financial planning, performance analysis, and strategic business partnering for our retail business. This role will support decision-making across brick-and-mortar stores, e-commerce, and omnichannel business lines, with a strong focus on driving profitable growth, improving operating efficiency, and enhancing investment returns.The ideal candidate brings deep FP&A and commercial finance expertise, with proven experience in the retail / omnichannel consumer retail industry, preferably in fashion, lifestyle, or general retail. Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Planning & Forecasting<ul><li>Lead the annual operating budget process, 3-year long-range plan, and monthly/quarterly rolling forecast cycles across retail channels, including physical stores, e-commerce, and omnichannel business lines.</li><li>Build and maintain robust financial models to support planning, forecasting, scenario analysis, and strategic decision-making.</li><li>Partner with cross-functional teams to align financial plans with commercial priorities and operational goals.</li><li>Provide forward-looking insights on revenue, gross margin, opex, and cash flow trends.</li></ul>Business Performance & Variance Analysis<ul><li>Own the monthly P&L review process and deliver detailed variance analysis versus budget, forecast, and prior year.</li><li>Analyze key drivers of revenue and gross margin performance, including traffic, conversion, average order value, product mix, discount and promotion impact, channel mix, and store-level profitability.</li><li>Monitor and report on critical retail KPIs, including:</li><ul><li>Store-level P&L</li><li>Inventory turnover</li><li>Sell-through rate</li><li>Gross margin by category and channel</li><li>Marketing ROI</li><li>Working capital</li><li>Rent-to-sales ratio</li><li>Labour cost ratio</li><li>Cash conversion cycle</li></ul><li>Identify performance gaps, risks, and opportunities, and recommend actionable solutions to improve results.</li></ul>Capital Investment & Business Case Evaluation<ul><li>Evaluate business cases for marketing and promotional investments, omnichannel initiatives, and new category launches.</li><li>Assess ROI on commercial initiatives and track post-investment performance.</li><li>Support merchandising teams in analyzing assortment strategy and financial trade-offs.</li><li>Provide decision support on resource allocation and strategic investment priorities.</li></ul>Commercial Business Partnering<ul><li>Act as a trusted finance business partner to leaders across retail operations, e-commerce, merchandising, marketing, and supply chain.</li><li>Translate complex financial analysis into clear, actionable insights for senior stakeholders.</li><li>Challenge assumptions and influence decision-making to drive accountability and business performance.</li><li>Support strategic initiatives focused on growth, margin enhancement, productivity, and transformation.</li></ul>Team Leadership & Reporting<ul><li>Lead and develop the FP&A / commercial finance team to deliver high-quality planning, analysis, and reporting.</li><li>Strengthen management reporting processes and improve the consistency and quality of business insights.</li><li>Prepare and present financial performance updates, forecasts, and recommendations to senior leadership.</li></ul> Required Qualifications & Experience<ul><li>Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.</li><li>Professional qualifications such as CPA, CIMA, ACCA, or CFA are preferred.</li><li>10+ years of progressive FP&A experience.</li><li>Minimum 5 years in retail / omnichannel consumer retail industry.</li><li>Experience in fashion, lifestyle, or general retail is highly preferred.</li><li>Strong expertise in budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, financial modeling, and variance analysis.</li><li>Solid understanding of retail economics, store performance drivers, merchandising impacts, and omnichannel business models.</li><li>Proven ability to partner with senior business stakeholders and influence cross-functional decisions.</li><li>Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills.</li></ul>By clicking 'apply', you give your express consent that Robert Half may use your personal information to process your job application and to contact you from time to time for future employment opportunities.
