The responsibility of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) today does not just comprise that of making sure the numbers tally at the end of the month. It is now part of the finance leader’s portfolio to understand the business from a strategic point of view and how these important numbers help deliver an accurate and convincing picture of the company’s progress.
According to a Robert Half survey of 100 CFOs in Shanghai, the top three pressures that CFOs face are inadequate commercial skills, lack of time to complete work and projects, and the shortage of temporary/interim professionals to capitalise on team efficiency. While these weighty issues aren’t new ones, they are exacerbated by ongoing economic and regulatory changes.
Fueling and sustaining growth is a formidable challenge, but it’s a challenge today’s resourceful and battle-tested CFOs are clearly up for.
